Bethany, you raise a very good point. I was also unable to get the seasonal flu shot for myself. Both my son and I are on waiting lists!

I plan to get my kids vaccinated (only one is "high-risk," since they are 3, 9 and 11) when the vaccine is available at my pediatrician's offce, but I'm not making an effort to chase it down. In Maine, school-aged kids are being vaccinated for both the seasonal flu and H1N1 in school - as soon as they're available (consequently, flu clinics keep getting postponed). If they become available at the doctor's office first, we'll probably go that route. Right now, there are only enough doses in Maine for one-fifth of the "high-risk" population to get vaccinated, so it will be awhile before it becomes available to everyone. Being seven months pregnant, I've had both the seasonal flu and H1N1 shots; my three-year-old has had the seasonal flu mist.

All three of my children got the regular flu shot at the end of September. My pediatrician holds flu clinics for his patients every year and it is a quick in and out evening clinic. Convenient even for working parents! My three and four year old received the h1n1 vaccine on 10/29. Now here is the kicker my seven year old can not get her h1n1 vaccine until 12/8. That is her elementary schools scheduled date per the Dept. of Health. I am not happy because I feel I should have had the option of her having it at my pediatrician's office when my other children received it. I know offering clinics at schools or in public venues is good for the general public, but to have that as my only option is not acceptable to me. And yes we debated as to give or not to give the h1n1 to our children. My husband is a critical care nurse and discussed it with some CDC docs and read up on it and decided the risks were minimal compared to the potential of dying from the flu. Lastly, I can not get a regular flu shot anywhere for myself...they are out everywhere!
