Each morning my children pick one item to put in their backpacks for school, which they usually play with in the car while we travel. This morning Sofia chose a book and Dominic chose his toy microphone (which to my great fortune actually amplifies voices).
Dominic: ♫ OLM MACDONALD HAD A FARM OIYEEEE OIYEEEEE OIYEEEEEE!!! ♫
Sofia: Dominic, here’s an idea. You can have a turn with the microphone and then I will have a turn with the microphone. So now it’s my turn.
Dominic: ♫ TWINKLE TWINKLE TRAFFIC LIGHT ON DA CORNER SHININ BRIGHT… ♫
Sofia: Dominic, Dominic, Dominic, Dominic can I have a turn? Dominic?
Dominic: ♫ RED MEANS STOP, GREEN MEANS GO, YELLOW MEANS GO NICE AND SLOW!!! ♫
Sofia: Dominic, this is what I think you should do. You should give me the microphone and then I will give it back to you, and then you can give it back to me.
Dominic: ♫ ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT GENTLY DOWN DA STREAM!!!! MERRILY MERRILY MERRILY MERRILY LIFE IS BUD A DREAM!!! ♫
Sofia: Dominic, remember when we went to the Foxboro Charter School and the man talked in the microphone, and then he gave it to the woman, and then she talked in the microphone, and then she gave it to another woman, and then she talked in the microphone? I think we should try that.
Dominic: ♫ NO, NO, NO NO NO, NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOO!!!! ♫
Me: *giggles* Sofia, I give you an A for effort.
Sofia: What does that mean?
Me: It means that I think you tried your best to get your way. I just don’t think he’s going to give in.
Sofia: That last one was pretty good, wasn’t it?
Me: Indeed.
